Ruth Ellen Hoekstra, a Colorado Springs resident since 1969, passed away Friday, February 7, 2020. She was owner of the variety store called Six Star Factory Outlet. She also owned “Joe’s Flower Shack.”
Ruth was born on November 4, 1931 to Theodore George Bachtle and Gertrude Louis (Buehl) Bachtle in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. She married Roger J. Hoekstra on October 13, 1951 in Wisconsin.
She loved to travel with her daughters. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed feeding all the birds and squirrels that visited her yard. She also enjoyed doing various types of handcrafting.
She is survived by her four daughters: Konnie Thompson (Richard), Jennifer Stark, Susan Hoekstra, and Sheri Bianchi (Greg); two sisters, Faith Dolan, and Marilyn Utegaard; three grandchildren: Chris Thompson, Kirsten Meyers, and Roger Bianchi; and great-grandchildren: Logan and Owen Thompson, and Evelyn, Lucas and Magdeline Meyer She was preceded in death by her spouse, both her parents, her sister, Gene Woytovich and her brother Gordon Bachtle.
A private family gathering will be held. Private inurnment will take place at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, “America the Beautiful” Rose Gardens.
