Ruth M. Batley, 95, passed into the arms of her Lord on April 12, 2017. She was a 60 year resident of Colorado Springs, formerly from Fairview Heights, Illinois.
Ruth was born in East St. Louis on July 26, 1921 to Charles E. and Esther (Dolson) Andis. She joins her husband, Charles; daughter, Cindy (Batley) Pickett; sister; and parents, who preceded her in death.
Ruth grew up in East St. Louis, where she met Charles, a neighbor of her family, while she was working at AT&T. They married in Bakersfield, California before Charles was shipped out to the Pacific in 1945. They later came to Colorado Springs due to Charles’ health and job. She worked for Charles at Castle Concrete Co. weighing trucks and doing office work, retiring from the company. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Eastern Star, the Grey Wolves Family Campers, and her Tuesday “Lunch Bunch” and had many wonderful friends and fond memories from those ties. They traveled in their retirement both in their fifth-wheel trailer around the country, and taking cruises to “see the world”!
Ruth and Charles had two daughters, Cindy (deceased) and Charlene (Batley) Tackett; and four grandchildren: Elizabeth (Pickett) Haynes, Matthew C. Pickett, Hannah Ruth Tackett, and Jeremiah Charles Tackett who loved spending time with their Grammy and learned many life lessons from her: faithfulness, kindness, love for family and love for God. She also is survived by her niece, Judy Cala.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. at First Southern Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. also at the church. A reception will follow the service. Private entombment will be at Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum.
Memorials in Ruth’s name may be made to First Southern Baptist Church, Colorado Springs, Colorado, or to In Touch Ministries, Atlanta, Georgia.
