Ryan Matthew Randquist was born on May 23, 1979, in Portland, Oregon, to Dale and Cathy Randquist and passed away around February 7, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was only 45 years old when he unexpectedly passed away.
He loved watching baseball and wrestling, painting, reading, learning languages, learning about history, etc. His favorite baseball team was the Chicago Cubs.
He wasn’t married and he didn’t have children but I know he was a father figure to a lot of people.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and older half-sister.
He is survived by his older sister, four nieces, five nephews, three great-nephews, nine cousins, lots of friends, and his cat, Zelina.
He wasn’t perfect but he was the best brother ever, and he’s always going to be missed!
A funeral service will be held at Holy Theophany Orthodox Church at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025, followed by interment at 11:00 a.m. at Crystal Valley Cemetery.

19 Feb 2025Matthew, I do not often feel this kind of regret, but I feel it now. Why did I not reach back to you and get to know you better, for you often first reached out to me, quite literally, extending your kind hand to me on an almost weekly basis. I am feeling the loss and I am not liking it. It is making me think hard about who else is around me that I am overlooking and thus cheating my own self. I am praying for you; if you are able, will you pray for me? I hope to see you again, under better circumstances.

31 Mar 2025We are stunned and very saddened to come across Matt’s obituary. Matt was a part of our Saturday night service at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and belonged to our Bible study group several years ago. We kept in occasional contact after the Saturday service ended, but had not seen Matt for a long time. He was a very good person and we are so sorry to learn of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers to his family.

3 Apr 2025Matt was a 7th and 8th grade student in my social studies class, at Gaston Public schools in Gaston, Oregon. He was an excellent student, well behaved and polite. His work was always well done, on time and showed attention to detail. I know he liked the “current events” portion of my classes. Every Monday in all my classes we discussed, international, national, state, local news and even sports.
I retired in 2005 and moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Matt contacted me and we began a close friendship.
Matt lived in Colorado Spring, Colorado and since we both loved college football he would sometimes drive to my place and we would watch a Michigan Wolverine football game.
Matt was a lifelong learner, and a voracious reader. Matt had been buying classes on a wide variety of topics. When he shared the source with me I also started buying classes we were both interested in like Communism, Russian, British, French history, and the French and Russian revolutions. Matt’s true strength was his grasp of current events and his ability to use information to make analogies, comparisons, and even predictions. Matt’s death was a terrible shock to me and I will always miss him and the conversations we had.
