Samuel Roger Twitty, Sr., 75, affectionately known as “Pops” to those who loved him, passed away on September 11, 2017. He was a resident of Widefield, Colorado for 47+ years, and was a First Sergeant in the United States Army.
Twitty was born on October 27, 1941 to Samuel Twitty and Lonie Crews in Union Mills, North Carolina. On January 17, 1981, he married Cathleen Carlson in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Pops was happiest with a fishing pole anywhere in the mountains. He also loved cooking and hosting parties for his family throughout the years. Pops graduated from Carver High School in the year of 1959, and served in the United States Army for 27 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Twitty; sons, Roger and Christopher Twitty; grandchildren: Mariah Twitty, Tamera Twitty, Maleena Twitty, and Elijah Twitty; nieces: Danielle Twitty, Yazmine Twitty, Cathy Proctor, Teresa Proctor, and Ellen Proctor; nephews: James Bazemore, Seth Bazemore, Carl Anthony Twitty, and Gregory Proctor, step-daughter, Toni French; daughter in law, Consuelo Twitty; sisters: Alice Marcus, Carol Yvonne Mills, Mabel Proctor, and Virginia Evans. All of which will be thinking of him, missing him, and keeping his memory alive by the remembrance of his kind spirit.
A memorial service will be held from 2pm-3pm on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. A reception will be held at the house of Pop’s oldest son, Roger Twitty, following the service.
