Sandra Daffer, age 83, passed away on February 27, 2025. She was a resident of Monument, Colorado, for 6 years and was formerly a resident of Hudson, Florida. Sandy was born on December 3, 1941, to Gerald and Verna Stump in Waukegan, Illinois. On October 31, 1988, she married Lynn Daffer in Louisville, Kentucky.
In the early 1970s, Sandy and her family moved to Whidbey Island, Washington, where she worked as a preschool teacher at the NAS Whidbey Childcare Center. Over the years, she called many places home, including Oak Harbor, Washington; Honolulu and Kailua, Hawaii; Canton, Michigan; Louisville, Kentucky; and Hudson, Florida. Her travels reflected her adventurous spirit, but her heart always remained rooted in her family and faith. Sandy’s life revolved around her loved ones. She was a “fancy lady” who delighted in dressing up, staying in luxury hotels, and flying first class. Her joy extended to her hobbies: gardening, with a passion for orchids and a lush garden in Northbrook, Illinois; craſting, from stained glass to sewing matching Christmas pajamas and dance dresses; and cooking, baking, and hosting. Christmas was her favorite holiday, celebrated with a grand tree, cookie decorating, and midnight Mass.
Sandy’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was deeply involved in the Catholic Church, participating in charities, delivering communion to the homebound, and organizing food donations for the local food bank.
An avid traveler, Sandy explored the world on dozens of cruises and flights, visiting places like Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, South America, and Machu Picchu. She also ventured across the U.S. in a motorhome, rode trains through Mexico, and explored Australia by rental vehicle.
She is survived by her children from a previous marriage: Elizabeth Boss (Marshall), Timothy Dennehy, and Thomas Dennehy (Trisha); Lynn’s child from a previous marriage, Teresa Coons (Michael); her grandchildren: Melinda Thompson (Nate), Christopher Boss, Tara Bortot (Anthony), Trevor Dennehy (Yukiko), Taten Dennehy, Levi Coons, Ian Coons, and Ava Coons; and her great-grandchild, Ty Dennehy.
Sandy’s family expresses their thanks to the staff, caregivers and volunteers at Jackson Creek Senior Living and Bloom Hospice. Memorials in Sandy’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
