Soyla Cruz Rojo Lujan, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for over 60 years and was formerly a resident of Trinidad, Colorado and Ajo, Arizona. Born on March 29, 1938, to Tranquilino Rojo and Cruz (Gonzalez) Rojo in Ajo, Arizona. On August 19, 1956, she married Joseph Lujan in Yuma, Arizona. Together they raised eight children. Soyla lived a full and vibrant life marked by resilience, love, and dedication to her family and friends.
A self-made cleaning professional for many years, Soyla took pride in her work and brought care and diligence to every task she undertook. She also provided home healthcare for her mother-in-law with compassion and commitment—another testament to her nurturing spirit.
Soyla’s life was deeply rooted in family. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Stella Zemora (Pete), Art Lujan (Vivian), Ricardo Lujan, and Monica Sanchez (Willy). Her legacy continues through her 22 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters, Amanda Fischer and Carlota Villasenor.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Lujan; her parents, Tranquilino Rojo and Cruz (Gonzales) Rojo; daughters, Sherry Lujan and Angela Orozco; sons, Jose Lujan and Bert Lujan; grandsons: Pedro Zamora Jr., Dominick Tony Martin Lujan, and Che Orozco; two infant great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Baker, Bertha Perez, Eva Sepulveda, Virginia Rojo, Erlinda Aroz, and Lily Robles; and brothers: Leovardo Rojo, Hector Rojo, Francisco Rojo, and Reginaldo Rojo.
Soyla had a remarkable passion for cooking. Her kitchen was often filled with the aromas of lovingly prepared meals that brought warmth to countless family gatherings. In earlier years, she found joy in hunting trips, camping adventures under open skies, and dancing—activities that reflected her zest for life. More recently, she discovered comfort in coloring books and word search puzzles—quiet pastimes that brought peace during her later years.
Known affectionately as “Grandma Soyla” to many beyond her immediate family circle, she was admired for her loving nature, strength of spirit, kindness of heart, and boundless energy. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A viewing will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Shrine of Remembrance located at 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910. 31 Mar 2025She made a positive umpact in my life, she was maternal, loving and such a joy to be around. She was genuine and was a respecter of persons. She cared and raised her children, was caretaker for several nieces, nephews and grandchildren. I admired Soyla for her compassionate spirit and her ability to put on a smile even when times were tough. She was one of a kind, it didn’t matter where you came from or who you were, she always so kind. Beautiful inside and out, she’ll not be forgotten.
