Susan Lynn (Burns) Bennett was taken from us on May 30, 2023, after a long and painful struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Susie was a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, for 29 years, but still considered Lafayette, Indiana, her home, where she grew up and met her husband, James Bennett.
Susie was born on January 30, 1956, to Harvey Lee Burns and Sherla (Mauger) Burns in Huntington, Indiana. She married James Bennett on February 9, 1974, in Lafayette, Indiana.
Susie graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette in 1974 and went to Olivet Nazarene College in Illinois and Kansas City Community College in Missouri, earning a Certified Nursing Assistant certificate in 1983. Susie had many hobbies and lots of different jobs. She loved variety, enjoyed trying new things, and she was a social extrovert. But most of all, she was a homemaker, who loved her children and her home. Susan was a member of Vanguard Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, serving in various capacities such as the Greeting and Premarital Counseling ministries.
Susie is survived by her husband (married 49+ years), Jim Bennett; their daughters, Erica Krieger and Julia Scanlon; her sisters, Dawn Hughes and Leslie Burns; and her five wonderful grandchildren: Jameson, June, Charlotte, Maggie, and Mabel.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Gayle Burns, in 2021.
A memorial service is planned for 6 PM on Tuesday, June 27, at Vanguard Church, 3950 North Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. A later service will be held in Lafayette, Indiana for her inurnment, which will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
