February 2, 1949 – April 23, 2021

Swarna Prabha, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 23, 2021, in the embrace of her loving children.  Swarna was born on February 2, 1949, to Mr. Ramesh Chandra Gupta and Mrs. Sharbati Devi in Meerut, India.  She attended Roorkee University in India for undergraduate studies and obtained two Master’s Degrees in Engineering from Roorkee University and Purdue University in Indiana.  In her professional career, she worked as an Engineer for AT&T Bell Labs and the State of Indiana.  Swarna married Shri Harsha on November 26, 1972, and raised their family in Indianapolis, Indiana where they met many lifelong cherished friends. After living in Indianapolis for more than 35 years she moved her home to Kennesaw, Georgia to be close to her younger daughter.

The Sanskrit translation, Swarna “Golden”, Prabha “Glow” truly embodies the courageous woman she is and the positive light she shown on others through her loving nature and radiant smile.  As an avid gardener, the golden rays of the sun brought her joy as she spent hours cultivating her flowers and vegetables.  Her adventurous spirit took her to beautiful places both in the U.S. and around the world with her children and dear friends.  Swarna created beautiful nature paintings which will always be treasured by her children as a testament to the patience and calmness that she applied to her life and those around her.  Her fierce dedication to the upbringing of her three children was only paralleled by the mother-like care she provided her grandchildren in their infancy and throughout their lives, including in her last days bathing her three-week-old infant grandson. This was her purpose in life, a life that brought joy, love and happiness to so many; truly a “Golden Glow” that touched us all.

She is survived by her son, Asheesh Harsha (Sipa); 2 daughters: Anjali Washington (Derrell), and Amitha Harsha; a brother, Shiv Chandra Gupta; and 4 grandchildren Rajan, Priya, Sonali and Akhil.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother and her sister.  A celebration and remembrance of Swarna’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. MST on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910.  Inurnment will be private.

Memorials in Swarna’s name may be made to Doctors Without Borders, doctorswithoutborders.org.

  13. May God help her lie in peace. Her soul is eternal and someday We all will join her. She will always remain in our heart and soul. Swarn Prabha and my wife Kamal were the best friends ever since they met in a store in Indianapolis in 1979. That was the year we moved to Indianapolis from Connecticut. Swarn Prabha and her husband Harsha who passed away in 2009 were pillar of our friendship. We had wonderful life together, we helped each other in good times and bad. It is so ironic that my wife passed away in 2012 on April 22 and Swarn passed away in 2021 on April 23, its like within 24 hours of each other. May god bless the Children, Ashish, Amita and Anjali in pursuit of their life full of happiness and prosperity. Our parents are aging and sooner or later they will be in heaven, that’s the nature of life. So let’s celebrate her life and accomplishment that she had offered to the world. She raised there beautiful children who are prospering in their own right. I will miss Swarna just as much I have missed my wife Kamal. Kamal and Swarn were best friends, reflecting back on our life together I remember every moments of our togetherness. If I can do anything for surviving children I will always be there. At the moment the only regret I have is that I couldn’t be there with you all due to this terrible Mahamari that has consumed us all and refrained us to be with out loved ones. God Bless Swarn Prabha and her children, Ashish, Amita and Anjali and their family. I am Sushil Jain still in Indianapolis. God only knows what my life plan is going forward.
