Theresa Inez Copeland, age 87, passed away peacefully July 18, 2020 due to acute kidney failure. She was born January 31, 1933. In Newark N. J. to Lottie and William Jordan. She married Henry A. Copeland in September of 1951.
She graduated June of 1970 from Newark State College in an effort to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming an elementary school teacher. She accomplished this at Bergan Street School, later known as WN Brown University, until her retirement in 1997.
Teaching cam as naturally for her as breathing. She was loved by both her students and colleges. On many occasions her principal tried to get her to go back to school and attain a Masters Degree so that he could promote her to his Vice Principal. She refused because she believed that anything that would take her away from the classroom was a waste because she believed that in the classroom was where she could make a difference.
Theresa is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Copeland; mother, Lottie Jordan; and father, William Jordan. She is survived by her sons, Anthony Copeland Sr. (Cassandra) and Vernon Copeland; grandchildren, Atiba, Warren, Anthony Jr., Ayanna J., Matthew, Melissa, and Nathanial; greatgrandchildren, Jalen, Alexander, Tahlia, Elijah, and Keoni; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Please join us in celebrating her life 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2020 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd.
