Tovia Lotoa Lutali, 76, of Colorado Springs, passed away on March 27, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Tovia was born on August 23, 1937 in American Somoa on the island of Aunu’u to the late Lotoa and Tagata (Nomura) Lutali.

Following high school, Tovia entered the United States Air Force where he proudly served for 24 years. During that time, Tovia worked as a dental hygienist and took many management and dental courses to further his education. He was awarded several medals, badges and commendations during his long-standing career in the military including the Meritorious Service Medal. In 1964, while stationed at the Toul Rozieres Air Force Base in France, Tovia met his beloved wife, Charlotte. The two were married on September 12, 1966.

In his spare time, Tovia enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and reading his Bible. He never met a stranger and loved striking up conversations, sharing meals and flashing his infectious Somoan smile.

Tovia is survived by his wife of 47 years, Charlotte; son, Patrick and daughter, Leilani. He is also survived by his brother, Pili Lutali as well as many other extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will be held from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Interment and military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. A celebration of life dinner reception will conclude services at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 South Union Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, 30 North LaSalle Street, Suite 4300, Chicago, Illinois 60602-2584.
