Verna Marie Herl, 85 years old, passed away on April 29, 2017 at home surrounded by those she loved. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for 58 years and was formerly a resident of Hays, Kansas. She was retired.
Verna was born on January 26, 1932 to John Befort and Margaret Befort in Hays, Kansas. On May 2, 1949 she married Leander Herl in Hays, Kansas.
Verna was an employee of Eisenhower Osteopathic Hospital as a labor and delivery nurse’s aide for 30 years and then retired from Terrace Gardens Nursing Home after working an additional 15 years.
She is survived by her two sisters: Wilma Schoendollar and Georgine Staab, her four children: Gloria Jean Summers, Terry Herl, LeAnn Herl Gonzales and Lori Ann Elder. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, with a Rosary at 6:00 pm, on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard. Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Entombment will follow the services at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven. A luncheon reception will follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 South Union Boulevard, across the street from the funeral home.
