Vineta Jean Niemet, age 90, passed away on December 22, 2022. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for 60 years. She was a Christian woman, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker, and friend.
Vineta was born on April 14, 1932, in Kildare, Oklahoma to Bacil and Abilene (Hughey) Hood. She graduated from Enid High School in May of 1950. She met her husband to be, a young airman stationed at Vance Air Force Base, while skating at the local roller-skating rink. She was married to Walter Niemet in Kingfisher, Oklahoma on December 2, 1950.
Vineta had a home-based clothes ironing and sewing business in the 1970’s. She served as an election judge for many years. Vineta was fond of doing creative artwork including painting, cross stitch, embroidery, sewing and finally coloring in her later years. She was always ready for a game of cards or marbles. Vineta was a member of the church of Christ for over 78 years and of the Pikes Peak Church of Christ congregation for the past 54 years.
She is survived by her children: Donald Niemet (Connie), Robert Niemet (Floy), Debra Gorman (Dave), all of Colorado Springs and Sharon Pelache (Danny) of State College, Pennsylvania; her sister, Leona Wynn and brother, Jerry Hood; grandchildren: Steven Niemet, David Niemet, Heath Niemet, Heather Davis, Jason Pelache, Jennifer Pelache, Brian Gorman, and Tara Gorman and 11 great grandchildren. Vineta was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter Niemet and son Richard Niemet.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on December 30 at Pikes Peak Church of Christ, 1402 W. Pikes Peak Avenue. Memorials in the name of Vineta Niemet may be made to Mountain States Children’s Home in Longmont, Colorado (www.msch.org).
