Viola G. VanDerWege
Viola G. VanDerWege, a Colorado Springs resident for 60 years, passed away on September 23, 2012. She was a Data Technician for Colorado Springs School District #11 for 25 years.
She was born on January 29, 1924 in Norton, Kansas to George Dewey and Edith Amanda (Allen) Laughlin. She married William VanDerWege on November 15, 1942 in Norton, Kansas. She was a longtime member of the Pikes Peak Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association as well as Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregations in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Las Vegas, Nevada.
She was a wonderful mother and wife. She was also a fabulous cook and homemaker, and she was dedicated to the career she loved.
Viola is survived by her husband; her children: Joyce Falley, David (wife Kathryn) VanDerWege, John (wife Ruth) VanDerWege, and Bob (wife Carol) VanDerWege; seven grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and all 8 of her siblings.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Private entombment will take place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made in Viola’s name to First Christian Church of Colorado Springs or to Pikes Peak Hospice.
