Viola M. Martinez
Viola M. Martinez, age 83, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1960 and formerly of the San Luis Valley, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at a local care center. She was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Viola Marie Maestas was born on June 29, 1929 in Chama, Colorado to the late Jose Ramon and Erinea (Sanchez) Maestas. She graduated from Centennial High School in San Luis, and married Valois M. Martinez on June 6, 1960 in Chama.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was active at the Hillside Community Center in the Seniors Program.
She is survived by her two children: Rodney (Cathy) Martinez of Colorado Springs; and Karen (Donald) Dixon of Colorado Springs. She has six grandchildren: Anjelica, Antonio, Matthew, Samantha, Monica, and Michael. She also has four great-grandchildren: Anjelo, Neveah, Aurelio, and Shalyze. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and nine brothers and sisters: Ruperta Sanchez, Celso Maestas, Rosenda Sanchez, Cleofus Sanchez, Manuelita Rodriguez, Frank “Bert” Maestas, Ernestina Consos, Elsie Vialpando, and Eliseo Maestas.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A vigil service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2715 E. Pikes Peak Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. A luncheon reception will then follow at the church.
Memorials in Viola’s name may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
