Virginia Key Wilkerson, a long-time resident of Colorado Springs, passed peacefully at home.
Virginia was born in Richmond, Virginia, on November 8, 1921, to Frank Sr. and Mary (Willis) Key.
Virginia demonstrated her love for God and enjoyed being a part of numerous churches; she taught Sunday school at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.
Virginia worked and retired as a supervisor at Penrose Hospital; Virginia enjoyed bingo and Cripple Creek. She also enjoyed taking pictures, eating out, her flowers, westerns, and the gameshow network.
Virginia had many family members, whom she called “her children.” Spending time with friends and family was very important to her; she loved everyone she knew.
Virginia leaves behind to cherish her memory, nephew, Joseph Key of Richmond, Virginia; niece, Frances (William) Settles of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter, Dorothy of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; daughter, Minnie Reed of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Ronnie, Nathaniel Jr., Mechell, Mia Reed, and Ernestine Sortenberry (Dan).
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Wilkerson; father, Frank Sr.; her mother, Mary Key; sisters, Martha F (passed at an early age), Julia Dudley, and Mary M; and brothers, Frank Jr., Moses, and Augustine.
A Visitation will be held Friday, July 16, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Funeral Service to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd. Private interment at Memorial Gardens.

22 Aug 2021I call this wonderful woman Grandma. I am just now learning of her passing. She knew me since my birth. She has a picture of her holding my little brother Michael when he was born. Grandpa James has a picture of them as well. My heart is broken. I will truly miss you Grandma. I’ll see you later. I love you.

22 Aug 2021I knew her through Ruth and Leo Daugherty we live’d on the same block near her just two house’s away from her and James. They became our grand parents she was a loving woman, she has seen our kids grow up and been loving grandparent our thoughts and love goes out to u and your family
