Vivian Lucille Sparks Gearhart was born to Andrew and Julia Arnold Sparks on November 1, 1910 in Dubois, Nebraska and passed away on February 9, 2012 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
When she was three years old, her family moved to Modoc, Kansas where her father and grandfather built a schoolhouse. Her family moved to Protection, Kansas in 1916 where she lived until her marriage in 1934. She graduated from Protection High School in 1929 and attended business school in Wichita, Kansas for a year. She worked in Protection for two years at Kansas Power and Light.
In 1934, she married David Gearhart of Englewood, Kansas. They had two boys, David and Stephen. Her husband was a civil service employee from 1939 until he retired in 1969. The family lived in Amarillo, Texas; Lincoln, Nebraska; Denver, Colorado; and in 1954 moved to Colorado Springs where her husband worked for North American Air Defense Command until his retirement. Her husband passed away in 1985.
She was an active member of Central Christian Church from 1954 until her death.
She is survived by her two sons, David Gearhart of Monument and Stephen Gearhart of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by two daughters in law Rose Marie and Carol; four grandchildren, Gregory Gearhart of Seattle, Washington, David Gearhart of Hartsel Colorado, Zachary Hagler of Clarkston, Washington, and Merissa Hutmacher of Lincoln, Nebraska; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012 at Central Christian Church, 2002 West Pikes Peak Avenue. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services. Vivian will be entombed at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Angels.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the giver’s choice.
