Walter Collison, age 80, a resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Village at Skyline. He worked as a Field Engineer for IBM for 34 years.
Walter Raymond Collison, Jr. was born on March 15, 1931 in San Francisco to the late Water R. and Gertrude (Broadhead) Collison. He married Doris May Woodruff on August 5, 1956. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he was awarded a Purple Heart.
He was a 4-H leader and was active in the Santa Clara County Fair Association supporting livestock showings and auctions. He was the head usher at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Los Gatos, California, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kalispell, Montana as well as Immanuel Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs. He had many hobbies, including stamp collecting and studying historic scripture. In his retirement, he found great joy in traveling around the country with Doris to visit his children and grandchildren.
Walter is survived by his loving wife: Doris; children: Margaret (Steve) Springer, Elizabeth (Michael) Warmbier, Mark (Wendy) Collison, James (Sarah) Collison, and John (Kerri) Collison; grandchildren: Scott, Mike, Stephanie, Paul, Matthew, Kathleen, Cory, Kevin, Phillip, Jonathan, Joshua, Timothy, Samantha, Katelyn, Elizabeth, Abbey, and Jack; sister Dorcus “Corky” Faliano and nieces Catherine (David) Frey, Jacqueline (Gary) Hite and nephew Matthew (Elizabeth) Faliano.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 846 East Pikes Peak Avenue.
