Walter Harold Roberts, Sr., age 92, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017. He was a long-time resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Before retiring in the Springs, he spent his life in service with the US Army, living in Germany and on several military bases in the US. He was Sergeant First Class when he retired after 32 years.

He was born on February 1, 1925 to Ruby and Frieda (Leibig) Roberts in St. Louis, Missouri. He married Hermine Aumayr, from Linz, Austria, after they met during WWII. She preceded him in death in 2014 after over 50 years of marriage.

Walter was fond of fishing and gardening and did both with style, catching the biggest fish of the day and producing a garden full of colorful flowers. He also enjoyed keeping up with the news by reading the paper every day and going to outdoor concerts in the summertime. He loved his family but especially enjoyed visits with his grandkids and 4 great-grandsons. He made friends easily and enjoyed his time at Winslow Court Retirement Community, where he enjoyed the people and the activities.

He is survived by his son: Walter Harold Roberts, Jr, (Karen Louise Grundstad Roberts); grandson: Frank Luis Roberts, (Luci Stanley Roberts); and granddaughter: Rachel Louisa Roberts Fleming, (Brian Fleming). He dearly loved his four grandsons: Forest David Roberts, Sean Daniel Fleming, Holles Andrew Roberts and Jordan Andrew Fleming. He has one surviving sister, Rosemary Flegal. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hermine, as well as his parents and several brothers and sisters in St. Louis.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017, at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. The service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with a reception following at Winslow Court Retirement Community, 3920 East San Miguel Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
