Walter Ray Young, a Colorado Springs resident since 1980, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024. He was formerly a resident of Europe and Alaska during his years of military service.
Walter was born on May 7, 1935 in Marshall, Texas, to Walter Glenn Young and Irma (Irrine) Young.
He married Gisela Blauschmidt on September 24, 1959 in Germany. He was a Vietnam Veteran, a Korean War Veteran, and retired from the Army after 26 years of service. He was a decorated military veteran and was also an engineer.
He loved to play the guitar and found it to be relaxing. He also enjoyed bowling and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Gisela Young; a son, Roy Wayne Young; two daughters, Rita Ann Pollet (husband, Don), and Donna Lynn Young; and a grandson, James Randall Perry. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Glenn Young and Jerry Young.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Scattering will follow at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Rose Garden.
Memorials in Walter’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
