Wanda Surdi-Floss, a longtime resident of Denver and Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully in the afternoon of November 14th in the comfort of her apartment.

Born in New York and raised in Italy, Wanda was told by her father that she was going to become a doctor of medicine. After completing her doctorate in internal medicine in Italy, she returned to New York to finish her residency. It was here that Wanda paused her career and started a family. She returned to her field years later and was appointed the Medical Director for one of Bayer’s blood plasma centers in Denver.

Wanda was a deeply spiritual person and a devout Catholic. No Sunday was complete for her without attending Mass. Her compassion for others moved her to donate her time to a free medical clinic aiding the less fortunate. She enjoyed going to the theater and operas, playing bridge, and visiting casinos to relieve them of their money. Daily activities that gave her much pleasure included: cooking incredible meals, playing the piano, and receiving massages.

She is survived by her children: Rita Surdi, Guy Surdi, and Anna Widmayer; grandchildren: Michael and Alan Widmayer; sister, Mary Mezzasalma; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins here in the United States and Italy.

A funeral service will be held for Wanda at 11:00 a.m. on November 21, 2016 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Wanda’s memory to the humanitarian organization, Doctors Without Borders USA, P.O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030 or through their website.
