Ward Fickie, age 94, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2014, surrounded by his children. He was a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado for the past eight years and was formerly a longtime resident of Webster Groves and Ladue, Missouri.
Ward was born on May 25, 1919, to Edward L. and Myrtle (nee Ward) Fickie in Kansas City, Missouri. On August 3, 1943 he married Margaret Grolton Stumpe in Webster Groves. After Margaret passed away, he married Genevieve Zell and had fifteen happy years together before her passing.
Ward graduated from the University of Illinois and Columbia Law School in New York. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from June of 1941 to November of 1945.
He was an attorney and a partner in the firms of Biggs, Hensley, Curtis, and Biggs and also Biggs, Fickie and Dwyer. Ward truly loved the practice of law and was proud of his profession.
He was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish in Webster Groves and Annunziata Parish in Ladue. While a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Colorado Springs, he would occasionally drop by the office with a small donation for the youth group because he valued his faith and wanted young people to value it, too.
Ward is survived by his children: Gretchen (John) Thomas of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Mark (Shirley) Fickie of Palm Coast, Florida; and Nell (Marshall) Stranburg of Tallahassee, Florida; his grandchildren: Megan Dorsey, Shannon Reaney, Matthew Fickie, Christopher Stranburg and Tyler Stranburg; and his great-grandchildren: Margaret Dorsey, Thomas Dorsey, Morgan Reaney, Lucy Fickie, and Charles Fickie.
A celebration of life Mass will be held in Missouri at Holy Redeemer Parish, 341 E. Lockwood Avenue at 10:00 a.m. on August 1, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Ward’s name may be made to the charity of your choice.
