Warren J. Butts
October 30, 1920 – June 2, 2012
Warren J. Butts, 91 years old, passed away June 2, 2012 at Sunny Vista Nursing Home in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he had resided for the past several months.
He was born and lived in Colorado Springs his whole life, the only son of Eva Mae (Brenker) and Milan Edward Butts, also of Colorado Springs. He attended schools at Cheyenne Mt. School, Lowell, South Jr. and graduated from Colorado Springs High School. While in high school, he lettered 3 years in football.
Warren was a veteran of WWII. He entered the service in late 1942 at Ft. Logan, Colorado. His basic training was in Miami Beach, Florida. He was in the Army Air Force, Signal Corps. He was stationed in the Hawaiian Islands, Christmas Island, Marshall Island, Tarawa Island, all in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946 at Ft. Logan, Colorado.
After returning from WWII, he attended and graduated from Blair Business College in Colorado Springs and then worked at Ft. Carson Signal Corp. Communication Center as a supervisor, where he worked till he retired in 1978.
He was married in 1970 to Lucille (Cartwright) Connelly who preceded him in death in 1979. Warren is survived by his devoted 95 year old sister, Ruth Cole, also of Colorado Springs; step-daughter, Sharon Maxwell and husband Sidney of Chugiak, Alaska and their 3 grown children: Shari, Stuart, and Stacy; 5 great-grandchildren; nieces Shirley Pearson and Debbie Tucker; and nephews Don (Lucille) Cole, Terry (Toni) Kelsey all of Colorado Springs; and many great nieces and nephews.
Warren was a kind, gentle, quiet man who enjoyed his piano and music and several beloved pets through the years. He will be greatly missed.
A cryptside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Angels. A reception will follow the service and will be at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 South Union Boulevard, across the street from the funeral home.
