Wayne E. Booker
Wayne E. Booker, age 87, a resident of Ellicott, Colorado since 1945 and formerly of Fountain, Colorado and Waynesville, Missouri, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs. He was a self-employed farmer, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Wayne Earl Booker was born on May 24, 1926 in Rolla, Missouri to the late William and Vergie (Greenstreet) Booker. After attending school he served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He later married Frances Guyer on February 15, 1948 in Colorado Springs. Wayne loved driving his Cat tractor while listening to old country music. He enjoyed construction projects and loved re-building things. He was an artist, engineer, and will be best remembered for his integrity and work ethic. He had uncommon water knowledge of the Upper Black Squirrel Basin.
He is survived by his loving wife, Frances, of Calhan; three children: David (and Marna) Booker of Ellicott, Donald Booker of Ellicott, Denise (and Bill) King of Calhan; and his sister, Betty Burleson of Woodland Hills, California. He has six wonderful grandchildren: Jason, LouRae, Sabrina, Aaron, Nicholas, and Louanne. He has ten great-grandchildren.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his son, D’Wayne E. Booker, in 1993; three brothers: Lawrence and Leo Booker, and Howard Shockley; and two sisters: Prude Johnson, and Cora Mitchell.
A public visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest next to his son, D’Wayne, at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
