Wayne L. Hines, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1925, peacefully passed away surrounded by family, August 28, 2015.

Wayne was born on April 15, 1921 in King City, Missouri to Robert Hines and Grace (Lyle) Hines. He graduated from Ellicott High School in 1939. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and fought in the Pacific Theater. In 1946 he married Jewel L. Rotz in Raton, New Mexico.

He was the Owner/Operator of Hines Landscaping and his work was very important to him. Wayne was an enthusiastic businessman with a great work ethic, working well into his eighties. He also liked fishing and gardening, and was a member of Central Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth W. Hines; 3 grandchildren: Katie Diaz (husband Joaquin), Adam Hines, and Jenna Hines; and 2 great-grandchildren: Cooper Diaz, and Layla Diaz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel, in 2005; his daughter-in-law, Dana Hines, on June 14, 2015; 1 brother; and 6 sisters.

Wayne’s family would like to say a special thank you to Freedom Home for their dedicated, loving and thorough care of Wayne over the past year, they are truly a family. As well as a thank you to New Century Hospice for the wonderful service and care they provided. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A reception will be held at Central Church of the Nazarene, 2550 East San Miguel Street.
