William Gearhart Fahnestock, age 88, resident of Colorado Springs for 38 years, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2012 at Liberty Heights Care Center.

William Fahnestock was born March 20, 1924 in Avoca, Nebraska to Claude W. and Frances E. Fahnestock. He graduated from Laurel High School and attended the University of Nebraska, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity.

While stationed in Baltimore, Maryland with the U.S. Coast Guard, he met and married Elaine F. DeMoss. They were married on September 6, 1944. They returned to Laurel at his discharge and lived there for the next 28 years, where he was in the Security National Bank. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1974 when he retired from banking.

Mr. Fahnestock is survived by daughter, Judy Lowe (Richard) of Kearney, Nebraska; son Brent Fahnestock of Denver; 5 grandchildren: Scot Kissinger of Sedalia, Chris Kissinger of Littleton, Kipp Kissinger of Ashland, Nebraska, Chad Fahnestock of Denver, and Jaimie Fahnestock of Parker. He also had 16 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Fahnestock was an avid golfer through his retirement and he and his wife, Elaine, enjoyed traveling in their RVs over the years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; his parents C.W. and Frances; and his sister, Jane Benson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday January 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Entombment will follow at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven.

Memorials in his memory may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice of Colorado Springs or to the Presbyterian Church of Laurel, Nebraska.
