William George Stein (known to friends and family as Bill), age 87, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020. He was a resident of Colorado Springs, CO for 58 years.
Bill was born on January 5, 1933 in Allentown, PA. On October 17, 1987, Bill married Patricia Stein in Colorado Springs.
Bill loved to travel and had visited and lived in countries all over the world, learning multiple languages along the way. He loved to talk about his adventures and was especially fond of the time he spent in Germany. He loved all things German: the food and beer, the music, the language, and the history; some of the most fun he had in Berlin was at the Rex Casino. Bill was a very hard worker even as a child. He got his first job around the age of seven when he began delivering newspapers on a bicycle in Allentown, and as a teenager, he worked in the steel mill. He liked to spend his hard-earned money watching movies in the local theater where he would buy a hotdog and a soda. Bill enlisted in the US Army upon graduating high school and he served for 24 years, retiring with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2. Bill had a great sense of humor, and he laughed easily. He also really loved to read, and he read every night in his lounge chair with his dog, Donald, at his feet.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; stepchildren, Lisa Hoeckel and Hans Hoeckel; brothers, Martin Stein and LeRoy Scheller; grandchildren, Ashley McPhee and David Singleton; great-granddaughter, Myla Singleton; and his faithful pup, Donald.
In light of the pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date when it is safe to gather.
Donations in Bill’s name may be made to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region at their website https://www.hsppr.org/springs/donate or to their address at 610 Abbot Lane, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.
