William Sims Nowland II, born August 5, 1941, passed away September 24, 2023 at the age of 82.

Bill was born to Bill and Virginia (Harold) Nowland in Miami, FL in 1941. He married Deborah Putterbaugh on October 2, 1965, and they spent the next 58 years together, 55 of those years in Colorado Springs, CO. He was a practicing attorney for more than 50 years. He was a meticulous litigator and well-respected by his peers and clients.

Bill was a great believer in our American Constitution and freedoms. He served as an Air Force Intelligence Officer at the Strategic Air Command Headquarters where he guarded some of the nation’s most sensitive secrets. He rose to the rank of Captain.

He also served on multiple nonprofit boards and enjoyed supporting animal advocacy groups. He enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his friends and family, and automobiles. Until his final breath he served his community, family and continually worked to improve himself. Two of his favorite books were “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living” and “Roger’s Rules for Success”.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years; sister, Nancy Nowland; son, Stephen Nowland; daughter, Kimberly Nowland; and granddaughter, Elsie Militti.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in William Nowland’s name to The Old Mutt Hut, a state-licensed rest-of-their life sanctuary for dogs who become homeless in their elder years (www.theoldmutthut.org).

A Memorial Service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery, 1000 S. 26th St., Colorado Springs, CO 80904, from 11:00AM-12:00PM, followed by a celebration of life reception from 1:00-3:00PM, at The Fine Arts Center on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
