W. William VanDerWege
William VanDerWege, a Colorado Springs resident for 55 years, passed away on February 15, 2013. He was a Retired Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service. He also served his country in the United States Army.
He was born on April 16, 1922 in Norton, Kansas to Edward and Della (Harbers) VanDerWege. He married Viola G. Laughlin on November 15, 1942 in Norton, Kansas. He was a lifelong member of Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregations in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Las Vegas, Nevada. He served as an elder and as treasurer.
He was a loving father and husband who loved reading; Mitchner was his favorite author. He was also a history buff and belonged to the National Association of Letter Carriers.
William is survived by his children: Joyce Falley, David (wife Kathryn) VanDerWege, John (wife Ruth) VanDerWege, and Bob (wife Carol) VanDerWege; seven grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola VanDerWege; and 6 siblings.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Private Entombment will take place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
